To celebrate the launch of the 2004-2005 winter tourism program, Tourisme Montréal has just unveiled montrealmoretolove.com, where television stars, singers, athletes and other celebrities openly share the things they love the best about Montréal.
Tourisme Montréal trusts the new website will be a great help to those in other parts of Quebec in discovering the many things that make the city such a great winter getaway.
Visitors to the website will discover which restaurant Montréal Alouettes president and CEO Larry Smith especially loves, which buildings in Old Montréal author Arlette Cousture likes to show her friends visiting from out of town, and what truly fascinates Olympic diving medallist Alexandre Despatie about winter in Montréal.
Montréal will be hosting a number of superb exhibitions and events over the next few months. The 60s: Montréal thinks big, which opened at the
Canadian Centre for Architecture (www.cca.qc.ca ) on October 20, 2004, is already a huge success. Through original models, photographs, press documents and statements from influential figures, combined with film and video from the period, the exhibit follows the dramatic changes in the Montréal cityscape during the decade that brought us Expo 67.
From December 4, 2004 to January 2, 2005, the first edition of the X'mas Fairies(www.xmasfairies.info) will be out in force in Old Montréal, decked out with new illuminated decor that will sparkle up St. Paul Street from East to West. In addition to the myriad of activities scheduled in the churches, museums, and other cultural sites, the public will be invited to visit Marché Bonsecours' Terroir Market. Free tours of the neighbourhood will also be offered aboard the X'mas Carriage every December weekend, as well as from December 26 to 31. And to finish the year off in style, join the mega party at Montréal's New Year's Eve Ball at Place Jacques-Cartier - a fabulous outdoor celebration filled with music and capped off with midnight fireworks.
Pointe-à-Callière (www.pacmuseum.qc.ca), Montréal's archeology and history museum, innovates again with Old Montréal in a New Light, an exhibit that explores the heritage of one of the oldest neighbourhoods in North America. Besides the indoor exhibit, Old Montréal in a New Light suggests individual tours of discovery through the actual streets of Old Montréal to bring out all its rich architectural heritage. The exhibit continues until April 24, 2005.
The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts (www.mbam.qc.ca ) offers up another unique treasure with Eternal Egypt: Masterworks of Ancient Art from The British Museum, an exhibit that brings together 150 objects of exceptional
quality from the British Museum, whose Egyptian art collection is one of the world's most remarkable. Including monumental statues of Pharaohs and gods, papyri of the "Book of the Dead", precious jewelry, cosmetic containers and more, the exhibition will allow visitors to discover 3,000 years of Pharaonic history. Eternal Egypt will be on view at the Museum from January 27 to May 22, 2005.
"With superior comfort, quality service and excellent facilities, Montréal hotels have charmed the biggest international stars," added Charles Lapointe. With its Sweet Deal, Tourisme Montréal adds a second night at 50% off in all participating hotels. Tourisme Montréal also offers guests a free Fruits & Passion Cucina product worth $20 as they check in.
