Sparks Fly as American Idol Winner Jordin Sparks Blazes Onto the Music Scene

Jordin's self-titled album will hit stores on November 20th.

"And the winner of American Idol is ... Jordin Sparks!" We all remember when Ryan Seacrest said those words on the season finale. So, what has the 17-year-old songstress been up to since she won the coveted spot?

During the summer she, along with the rest of the top ten finalists, traveled across the country for the 56-city Pop Tarts American Idol Live! Tour. In between shows, Jordin was working hard on her self-titled debut album, which hits stores on November 20th.

Her self-titled album will hit stores on November 20th. Sparks has enlisted several producers for her album, including production team the Underdogs (Ne-Yo, Chris Brown); Robbie Nevil (who has worked on the "High School Musical" and "Hannah Montana" soundtracks); Norwegian duo Stargate (Nas, Rihanna); Sam Watters (Diana DeGarmo, Jessica Simpson); and Eman (Nick Lachey, Katharine McPhee).

The album is a mixture of R&B, hip hop, with some pop and country elements.

Sparks co-wrote her new single "Tattoo” with Amanda Ghost (who penned the Beyoncé and Shakira hit "Beautiful Liar").

SPARKS FLY

At the tender age of 17, Jordin Sparks became the youngest American Idol winner ever. Hailing from Glendale, Arizona, Sparks almost did not make it into the contest. She auditioned in LA but was dismissed by Randy, Simon and Paula. But Jordin refused to give up and made a bee-line for a second audition held in her native Arizona, where she made it through.

Jordin grew up in a bi-racial household and believes the high-intensity environment of her father’s occupation (her dad, Phillippi Sparks, was a professional football player for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys) may have schooled her in how to cope with the rigors of show business early on.

Over the summer, Jordin learned how to live on the road with the top ten finalists during the 56 city Pop Tarts American Idol Live! Tour. Jordin also spent the summer month crafting her debut album.
