J.D Fortune from Oakville, ON, becomes the new lead of legendary band INXS.
Eleven-week reality TV search to recruit a new star for the band, once fronted by the charismatic Michael Hutchence, has come to end.
Jason Dean Fortune, who slept rough in a car park before entering Rock Star:INXS, will now record an album and join INXS in a world tour.
J.D Fortune, now residing in Oakville, ON, once worked as an Elvis impersonator. He said: “It’s an understatement to say this is a dream come true.
“Growing up, INXS were a huge musical influence on me. I’d listen to their songs and wonder what it would be like to be in this band.
“That they’ve chosen me to be their new lead singer is just mind-blowing.”
"I was living in Nova Scotia, and I had a little twelve-inch black-and-white TV," J.D Fortune said of his earliest INXS memory to Rolling Stone magazine. "I saw one of their videos, and I went, 'Oh my god, that's the band.' I've been in love with them ever since."
INXS guitarist Tim Farriss said: “J.D. has a slightly dangerous edge and will bring a sense of spontaneity to our live show. I think he’ll grow with us on all levels. We’re a complete band once again.”
Michael Hutchence of INXS commited suicide in a Sydney hotel room in 1997, at the age of 37. His former wife Paula Yates insisted he died while performing a sex act.
