Destiny's Child announced plans to split up after their world tour that ends this fall.
Destiny's Child, which includes Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, released a statement with reasons for the break-up.
“After a lot of discussion and some deep soul-searching, we realized that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny's Child on a high note, united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other.”
Members of the multi-platinum R&B group said in a statement that they have been working together as Destiny's Child since tender age of nine, and touring together since they were fourteen. Among the group's biggest hits have been Bootylicious, Survivor and Independent Women. Over years, Destiny's Child has sold more than 40 million records around the world.
The end of the R&B teenage band was clear: the title of the group's latest album Destiny Fulfilled appeared to signal the end was near. The name of the world tour, Destiny Fulfilled ... and Loving It, is quite meaningful, too.
Destiny's Child starts the tour in North America on July 9 in St Louis, Missouri, and wraps up on September 10 in Vancouver, Canada.
Many critics suspect that the success of Beyonce's solo debut in 2003 signaled the Destiny's Child of their problems. Beyonce won five Grammy awards and became a superstar in her own right
Rowland and Williams have also released solo albums, but failed to become as successful as Beyonce Knowles.
Despite the break-up, the Destiny's Child members pledged to remain close friends.
