Grammy-winning rapper Lil’ Kim has been convicted for perjury in the radiostation shooting case, for lying about two members of her entourage – Damion ‘D Rock’ Butler and Suif ‘Gutta’ Jackson.
Lil’ Kim, 29, been awarded 20 years of incarceration on three counts of perjury and one count of conspiracy to commit perjury. However, she escaped the more serious charge of obstruction of justice.
In her reaction to the verdict, Lil’ Kim, whose name is Kimberly Jones, just shook her head and refused comment. Later, however, she released a statement saying that she admitted relief at being acquitted of more serious charges.
“Throughout my life, I have always lived with adversity and will continue to have faith and do good for my family, friends and fans,” she said.
Lil’ Kim’s counsel Mel Sachs, talking to reporters on the sidelines of the verdict, said that his client was ‘fine’ and has shown courage and strength.
The shooting incident took place outside radio station Hot 97, when Lil’ Kim’s group chanced upon competing rap group, Capone-N-Noreaga, who insulted the female rapper in a song. In the ensuing argument and shoot-out, two-dozen rounds were fired and one man was injured.
