Keira Knightley, Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are among 120 film industry bigwigs who've been invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Membership of this exclusive club, which numbers almost 6,000, includes the right to vote for who wins what at the Oscars and individuals go through a rigorous 14-committee process before being admitted.

The new intake, which also includes 2006 Oscar nominees Eric Bana, Felicity Huffman and Joaquin Phoenix, will replace members who have died or retired.
