Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal won MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss award for their passionnate kiss at Brokeback Mountain.
"This is a real honor, not just for me and Heath but for all of you, that you picked this movie and this kiss over all the other ones," Jake Gyllenhaal said.
"Brokeback Mountain" is the story of Ennis del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), two young men who meet and fall in love in 1963 on a sheepherding job on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming. The film documents their complex relationship over the next twenty years.
When Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were asked about any fear of being cast in such controversial roles, both have stated that the sex scenes in the beginning were difficult to do. Director Ang Lee also found the first scene difficult to film and has stated he has great respect for the two main actors for their "courage."
Although Jake Gyllenhaal has repeatedly stated being heterosexual, he regards rumours of his bisexuality as flattering.
Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal beat out Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Rosario Dawson and Clive Owen in Sin City, among others.
The night's ultimate big winner was Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's "Wedding Crashers," which won best picture, best on-screen team and best breakthrough performance by Isla Fisher.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt won a golden popcorn bucket for best fight in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but the couple, who last week welcomed daughter Shiloh Nouvel in Namibia, were not around to pick up the award.
