"After 9/11," Spielberg says, "War of the Worlds is [again] a reflection on how scared we are. This movie turns American families into refugees; it's something America has never experienced."
Steven Spielberg admitted that War of the Worlds could be completed earlier, if not for the Independence Day film that was released in 2002. However, Spielberg admits that he was a little sad when Independence Day came out “because they kind of picked the bones of that and put me off for a while," he is quoted as saying.
To add realism, some scenes of "War of the Worlds", starring Tom Cruise and directed by Steven Spielberg were filmed in an upstate community in New York.
