Land of the Dead: Zombies Strike Back

The legendary filmmaker, George A. Romero, brings you the ultimate in zombie movies, Land of the Dead.

In the 4th installment to George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" series, the zombies have taken over the earth.

The man who invented the modern zombie film comes back to his roots with this classic horror movie about power and survival. In this new apocalyptic tale George Romero draws a harrowing vision of a modern-day world where the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the walls of a fortified city.

Land of the Dead Plot: The world is full of zombies. The wealthy hide out in dungeons-like skyscrapers and chaos rules the streets. The survivors have barricaded themselves inside a walled city to keep out the living dead and must find a way to stop the evolving zombies from breaking into the city. A revolution plans to overthrow the city leadership, and the zombies are turning into more advanced creatures. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.

The Cast of Land of the Dead: evil yuppie leader is played by Dennis Hopper, still handsome and believable in his wickedness. Rebellious leader Cholo, acted by John Leguizamo, is a rare case of beautiful acting in zombie movies. The zombie females are grotesque except for Asia Argento who is convincing in gender-blending action.

The History of Land of the Dead: George Romero came up with zombie stories in 1968 with "Night of the Living Dead."

Master of visceral shock comedy, George Romero followed it with "Dawn of the Dead" (1978), "Day of the Dead" (1985) and now "Land of the Dead."

Critics Note: "Land of the Dead has got everything Romero’s fans have been waiting for, and more." (Staci Layne Wilson, Horror.com).

"Gritty, dark and unapologetically violent, Land of the Dead is a solid, serious zombie movie."
(Dustin Putman, themovieboy.com)

"All the little touches are a delight. Romero shows you can still be creative with gore as zombies find new, inventive ways to disembowel people." (Fred Topel, about.com)

Bottom Line: The humans are nervous, ambitious and fragile; the zombies are evolving. George Romero composes strong images and is good at mixing dark comedy with even darker despair. A must-see for the fans of the genre.
