Batman Begins is not your ordinary adventure thriller for comic geeks. Batman begins at the root of the winged man saga. We see how the phobia turns a man into a hero, who deals not only with evil, but also with fear, love, madness, and corruption.
"Batman Begins" takes us to the very beginning, tracing young Bruce Wayne who’s scared of bats, through the painful period following the death of his parents, up through how the adult Bruce Wayne learns to fight and collects cool gadgets including batmobile and batsuit.
In "Batman Begins" we see that fierce passion that eats a man from inside. And we relate to Batman.
Coarse raw realism is the key to "Batman Begins." Passion is the only logical reason behind how Bruce Wayne comes to possess each and every weapon, a reason why he overpowers even the most skilled criminals.
Batman aims to clear Gotham City, even at the expense of destroying the entire city, including innocent citizens. No less. Innocent, you may ask, in Gotham City?
Director Christopher Nolan took all the fun away from “Batman Begins” creating a moody, serious, intricately woven story about a child who witnesses a horrible tragedy and how that devastating event affects every aspect of his life as he grows into a man.
Christian Bale in "Batman Begins" masterfully delivers the story of how one man turns his own greatest fear and anger against his enemies. Keen in creating tormented, ominous characters who demand both fear and respect, Christian Bale is immaculate and believable both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman.
Supporting actors in "Batman Begins" - Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson and quintessentially apocalyptic hero Rutger Hauer (he’s been the main attraction to us until we have seen Christian Bale’s performance) provide the strongest supporting cast ever seen in recent films. If Academy ever asks our opinion, each cast member of “Batman Begins” deserves an Oscar for supporting role.
Its original script title Batman: Intimidation would be more appropriate to this Batman movies prequel. Unlike many comic book movies, "Batman Begins" provides both pleasure for eyes and food for brains, satisfying entertainment and an intimately human journey into the soul and nightmares that make Batman enduring and humane.
Finally, in "Batman Begins" we understand what’s going on under that pointy-eared hood.
