Batman Begins on Dark Side

Batman Begins directed by Christopher Nolan explores the beginning of the Batman legend in Gotham City.

Batman Begins directed by Christopher Nolan explores the beginning of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's growth into a force of good in Gotham City.

The new Batman presents billionaire Bruce Wayne torn between justice and vengeance years after witnessing his parents' murder. Bruce travels the globe to investigate the criminal psyche and eventually finds a mentor (Liam Neeson) who prepares the young man's mind and body for the task of fighting corruption.

Bruce returns to his native Gotham City, an epicenter of evil activities, where he becomes the phantom-like Batman, aided by his butler Alfred (Michael Caine), a childhood friend (Katie Holmes,) now in the district attorney's office, a high-tech genius (Morgan Freeman), and a virtuous cop played by the classic bad man Gary Oldman.

Aiming for crude realism compared to the tone of earlier Batman incarnations, the director of Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan needed an actor who could credibly capture the fanaticism that would drive a man to put on a Batsuit.

Christian Bale known for his strong-willed yet malicious characters in American Psycho and Reign of Fire was a perfect match. Bale portrayed Batman we never knew before: alter-ego: a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and technology to fight the sinister forces.

Many believe that the new installment of Batman series offers a much darker vision than the film series that began with Tim Burton's 1989 Batman. Burton's two Batman movies and two other sequels introduced a dark tone to picturing a classic comic character.

Rating: PG-13 for intense action violence, disturbing images and some thematic elements.
Genres: Action/Adventure and Crime/Gangster
