Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, playing a husband and wife team of hired assassins, came in way ahead of the number two film "Madagscar" which earned 17.1 million dollars as top-grossing film on last weekend, reported Exhibitor Relations Co..
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith came in third place with 14.8 million dollars, followed by "The Longest Yard" at 13.5 million dollars.
Even with Mr and Mrs Smith’s success, Hollywood experiences the horrible ticket sales slump.For the 16th straight weekend, ticket sales fell behind last year's pace. Mr and Mrs Smith is the only movie that came up with more than $20 million at weekend – including Star Wars: Episode III that grossed $14.9 million at its debut weekend.
"Batman is going to have to save the day," says Paul Dergarabedian of Exhibitor Relations to USA Today. "He's our last hope to not have 2005 go down in the record books."
