The sequel catches up with FBI agent Gracie Hart after she was crowned as Miss Congeniality and disarmed a terrorist plot.
The sequel catches up with FBI agent Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) shortly after she disarmed a threat against the Miss United States Pageant while working undercover as a contestant in Miss Congeniality.
Having become a media celebrity following her heroic pageant exploits, Gracie works the talk show circuit and promoting her book.
While Miss Congeniality Gracie does not want to become "FBI Barbie," she gets another makeover and ends up demonstrating her famous SING method of self-defense (that's "solar plexus, instep, nose, and groin") on Regis, with the help of Sam Fuller, her hostile new associate (Regina King).
When her friends, pageant winner Miss United States Cheryl and pageant emcee Stan, are kidnapped in Las Vegas, Gracie's all-out efforts to jump back into action to save them puts her at loggerheads with the FBI top brass who don't want to risk losing their mascot and fear she might not be up to the job anymore. Gracie and Sam have to outsmart not just the bad guys but also the local FBI by-the-books types to save the day.
In Miss Congeniality 2 Bullock is making lots of effort to make us laugh: she chases and tackles someone she thinks is a Dolly Parton impersonator, dresses up like an old Jewish lady in a wheelchair, and does a lot of racing around in sequins and high heels. As producer of the film, Bullock has tailored the role around her talents, and the obvious fun she was having makes it more fun to watch.
