According to the National Enquirer Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got married a full eight months ago in a secret Scientology ceremony on a cruise ship.

"Katie wore a flowing white dress and Tom was in a black suit as they exchanged rings during the brief 30-minute ceremony," a spy reports.

"The couple then walked across a tiny bridge - a Scientology symbol for the journey to total freedom."

But we all know how reliable National Enquirer can be sometimes.

The article also claims fellow Scientology members John Travolta and Kirstie Alley witnessed the ceremony, and afterwards everyone feasted on steak and lobster.

However, a spokesperson for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes insists: "They are not married in any sense of the word."

Tom Cruise began dating Katie Holmes in April 2005, before announcing in June 2005 that he had proposed to her at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

Katie Holmes accepted his proposal, and the couple are expected to be married in the summer or fall of 2006.

Many say Tom Cruise is going through his midlife crisis and that the relationship won't last.

Perhaps his most notable expression of his love for Katie Holmes was the "couch incident" which took place on the popular talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are also expecting a baby in 2006, which was rumoured to be the reason of Cruise's early proposal.
