The reigning Mexican beauty queen was arrested with suspected gang members in a truck filled with guns and ammunition, police said Tuesday.

Miss Sinaloa 2008 23-year-old model and former preschool teacher Laura Zuniga was arrested outside the colonial city of Guadalajara.

Beauty queen was riding in one of two trucks filled with assault rifles, handguns, nine magazines, cartridges and $53,300 in U.S. currency, Mexican police said.

 

Zuniga told police that she was planning on traveling to Bolivia and Colombia with the men to go shopping, police officials said.

Zuniga won the Hispanoamerican Queen beauty contest in October against competitors from across Latin America. She was expected to represent Mexico in the 2009 Miss International contest.
