David Duchovny in Rehab: Too Much of a Good Thing?
David Duchovny, who plays a sex-mad writer on the hit US TV show Californication, voluntarily checked into rehabilitation, according to Duchovny’s lawyer.
David Duchovny, who played sex-addicted Hank Moody on Californication series just a bit too believably, voluntarily checked into rehabilitation, according to Duchovny’s lawyer, Stanton Stein.
According to People Magazine, Duchovny said, “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”
The New York Daily News' article delved a little deeper, saying that Duchovny revealed that he and wife Tea got very steamy in a sauna during a getaway weekend in Vancouver.
“We were just all over each other - the sauna wasn't going to stop me,” said Duchovny, according to the newspaper, “and I recovered pretty quickly.”
Wait a second - isn't that what spouses supposed to do, to have sex?
Duchovny, 48, has been married to actress Tea Leoni since 1997. They have two children together. On April 24, 1999, Leoni gave birth to a daughter, Madelaine West Duchovny.
Their second child, a son, Kyd Miller Duchovny, was born June 15, 2002.
Duchovny is best known as Fox Mulder on the The X-Files.
Earlier this summer, Duchovny starred as Fox Mulder in the motion picture, The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
Often likened to alcoholism, drug addiction or gambling, sex addiction is a form of compulsive behavior which is sending growing numbers of people into therapy but which is not formally recognized as a "diagnosable disorder" by the American Psychiatric Association.
According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms range from rampant promiscuity to spending hours looking at pornography and using sex to escape from problems such as depression or stress.
It is often accompanied by secrecy and shame, and sufferers have difficulties with emotional intimacy.
