Tom Cruise has slammed reports his fiancee Katie Holmes is suffering from postpartum depression following the birth of their daughter Suri last month.
There were rumors that Katie Holmes, 27, was "constantly in tears" since giving birth to Suri, her daughter with Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise's publicist says, "Those reports are not true. Ms Holmes is doing wonderfully."
Tom Cruise has made it clear that no treatment for postpartum depression is required, after he publicly criticised actress Brooke Shields last year for using anti-depressants to treat her baby blues after giving birth to her daughter Rowan in 2003.
Tom Cruise insists postpartum depression sufferers can be cured without medication.
"I really do care about people, and I care about the way their lives are being harmed by these drugs," the actor said.
"I'm not saying that women, men, and children don't come up against problems in life. But drugs aren't the solution."
At that time Brooke Shields fired back, "I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr Cruise has never suffered from post-partum depression. Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women decide what treatment is best."
Postpartum depression (also called postnatal depression) is a mild and transitory form of "moodiness" suffered by up to 80% of postpartum women. It is caused by hormonal changes after childbirth. Postpartum depression is usually treated by antidepressants, hormone patches and psychotherapy. Obviously, none of these methods is suitable for Scientologists.
