Tom Cruise had his most important mission accomplished sucessfully, as fiancée Katie Holmes gave birth to a 7-lb., 7-oz., 20-inch healthy baby girl named Suri on Tuesday.

Entertainment Tonight confirmed that Tom Cruise was present for the birth, and reps for the star tell ET that both Katie Holmes and baby Suri are doing well.

 

Little Suri's name has its origins in Hebrew meaning "princess," or in Persian meaning "red rose."

Suri has dark hair and blue eyes, and was born in a Los Angeles-area hospital. Actress Brooke Shields gave birth in the same hospital that day.

The birth was described as going "smoothly" and Katie Holmes left the hospital within 24 hours of giving birth.

In an April 2006 interview with Diane Sawyer, Tom Cruise said he and Katie Holmes were "just Scientologists" and that their child would not be baptized Catholic
