The Beckhams are furious about the tabloid reporting their marriage was less than rosy.
David and Victoria Beckham will face the High Court to testify that their marriage is happy. The stellar couple is under fire initiated by the News Of The World tabloid for reports that their marriage is on rocks.
The Real Madrid captain and his fashion designer wife are suing the News Of The World over an article published in 2004 in which their former nanny, Abbie Gibson, claimed the Beckham's marriage has broken down.
News Of The World claimed in 2004 that David and Victoria Beckhams were just pretending to be happy to protect their public images.
The newspaper printed another story last year in which David's former personal assistant Rebecca Loos claimed she enjoyed a steamy affair with her employer when Victoria was away on business.
The tabloid reported that David and Victoria Beckham could not recover from Beckham's alleged affair with an assistant, Sky News reported Tuesday.
"Because their substantial fortunes depend upon their public perception, the claimants have been cynically and hypocritically trying for financial reasons to convince the public that they continue to enjoy a happy marriage," defence lawyer Richard Spearman, was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying.
David and Victoria Beckham released a statement saying: "We do not deny that we promote ourselves as a happily married couple. We say that's because it is true."
The News of the Worlds has recently paid substantial damages to Justin Timberlake after the reports of his infidelity proved to be fabricated.
