Broke Shields criticized Tom Cruise for making comments about antidepressants used to treat postnatal depression, calling it a disservice to mothers everywhere.
Broke Shields criticized Tom Cruise comments about the postnatal depression, calling them a disservice to mothers everywhere.
"I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression," Shields wrote in a newspaper column.
Brooke Shileds started to take anti-depression after the birth of daughter Rowan Francis in 2003.
Brooke said that Tom Cruise's comments "are a disservice to mothers everywhere."
"To suggest that I was wrong to take drugs to deal with my depression, and that instead I should have taken vitamins and exercised shows an utter lack of understanding about postpartum depression and childbirth in general."
Apparently, Tom Cruise believes his knowledge of psychiatry is enough to make grounded medical claims.
Last week, Tom Cruise made risky comments on Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants and particularly Ritalin. In an emotional outburst, he accused the host Matt Lauer of lack of knowledge on the matter.
"You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories... That's what I've done."
