Tom Cruise slammed NBC Today show host Matt Lauer on the subjects of Scientology, psychiatry, Brooke Shields, anti-depressants and the fact Matt Lauer was not willing to venture into medical discussion.

Discussing his hatred for drugs and love for scientology an angry Tom Cruise slammed Lauer, "You are glib. You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do."

According to a poll published on Friday by the MSNBC television channel, 69 percent of viewers said Tom Cruise was "just plain wrong" on the role of doctors and the use of drugs to alleviate mental distress.

About 61 percent of Entertainment Weekly magazine's readers said they did not like the new ebullient Tom Cruise as much as the quietly controlled superstar of yesteryear.

And 41 percent said they would not go to see his new film, against 34 per cent who would.

For decades, Tom Cruise remained mysteriously quiet about his beliefs and personal life allowing fans just relax and enjoy his films. But with his Scientology crusade Tom Cruise enters the dangerous territory of declining ratings.

Other examples of Cruise’s extravagant behavior include the couch-bouncing episode on Oprah last month, in which Tom Cruise declared his love for Holmes, and repeated public displays of affection with the actress, though they started dating in March.
