French luxury retailer Hermes has apologized to Oprah Winfrey for turning her away from a Paris boutique last week, saying the store was closed for a private event.
Luxury store Hermes has apologized to Oprah Winfrey for turning her away from one of its Paris boutiques last week, saying when she came knocking the store was closed for a public relations event.
Oprah Winfrey and "an entourage" unsuccessfully tried to enter a Hermes boutique on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore on June 14, Hermes has said in a statement.
The incident happened 15 minutes after the store closed for the day.
Hermes officials denied that it was an act of social discrimination. Rumors are that Hermes employees did not recognize American talk show mogul without makeup.
"Hermes apologizes for any offence taken," statement said.
On that particular night, however, "a private public relations event was being prepared inside," Hermes spokesperson added.
"Hermes regrets not having been able to welcome Madame Oprah Winfrey and the people accompanying her to give them all the attention and service that Hermes is committed to giving each of its clients in the world," French luxury brand has said the statement.
