Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer.

Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with the disease in Melbourne, while on a break with family members before the start of the Australian leg of her Showgirl tour.

"She's a pretty fit girl and a strong girl, and hopefully it (the cancer) is pretty early," her promoter Michael Gudinski told a press conference.

Kylie will undergo immediate treatment. It’s unclear whether the Showgirl tour will be postponed or cancelled.

Kylie Minogue, 36, auctioned one of her bras to promote breast cancer awareness in 2002. The bra was sold for US$5,685 at to raise money for research into the illness.

With Kylie in Melbourne is her French boyfriend, film star Olivier Martinez. Kylie’s sister and fellow pop star Dannii was also expected to fly home from London.

In 2002 Minogue's father was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
