Hilary Swank Pays Dearly For Fruit SmugglingOscar winner Hilary Swank didn't win her Kiwi appeal for carrying forbidden fruit to the island country.
Hilary Swank, 30, has been fined approximately US$163 for failing to declare an apple and orange in her luggage upon her arrival at New Zealand's Auckland International Airport on Jan. 15, reports the AP.
Swank had initially appealed the fine, sending a letter to the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry pleading her case.
"After my 20-hour flight I simply forgot I had one orange and one apple. I do apologize sincerely," she said in the handwritten letter.
The request to have the penalty expunged from her record was denied, and Hilary Swank was fined in Manukau District Court today (March 20, 2005).
Swank recently won her second Oscar for her leading role in Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby." She has another best actress Oscar for the film "Boys Don't Cry" (1999.)
Hilary Swank’s next movie, "The Black Dahlia" begins shooting in April 2005.
