Philip Seymour Hoffman won his first (and hopefully not the last) best actor Oscar at recent Academy Awards, winning the Oscar for his stunning performance in "Capote."
Philip Seymour Hoffman has established a successful and respected film career playing diverse and idiosyncratic characters in supporting roles. In "Capote", Hoffman portrayed an American writer Truman Capote during the years the author was researching and writing "In Cold Blood."
For his amazing performance Philip Seymour Hoffman already had won the Golden Globe, Independent Spirit and Screen Actors Guild awards, as well as top honors from critics groups across the country. Hoffman was also awarded Best Actor by at least 10 film critic associations, including the National Board of Review, Toronto Film Critics, and Los Angeles Film Critics.
In addition to his film career, Philip Seymour Hoffman has been recognized for his work in theater and has twice been nominated for Broadway's Tony Award.
Other nominees included Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line" and David Strathairn as Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night, and Good Luck."
Philip Seymour Hoffman will next appear as the evil character in "Mission: Impossible III," starring opposite Tom Cruise.
