Rachel Weisz beat out Michelle Williams of "Brokeback Mountain." The other nominees were Amy Adams of "Junebug," Catherine Keener of "Capote" and Frances McDormand of "North Country."
Rachel Weisz' performance won her a lot of movie awards this year, including the 2006 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, as well as a BAFTA.
"The Constant Gardener" is a film adaptation of a John le Carré thriller of the same title set in the slums of Kibera and Loiyangalani, Kenya.
Previously known mostly for "The Mummy" movies, Rachel Weisz, who turns 35 this week, portrayed a humanitarian-aid worker who aggressively confronts corrupt government and business officials in Africa.
"The Constant Gardener" was nominated for four Oscars, but Rachel Weisz was the only winner.
"It's a supporting role I was playing, and I was supporting him, so it is disappointing he wasn't nominated," stunning British actress - and a new mom - said earlier.
