Selling Clothes on Ebay? Beware the Taxman!

The Canada Revenue Agency said it wants eBay Canada to identify all high-volume Canadian sellers on the Web site.

The Canada Revenue Agency said it wants eBay Canada to identify all successful Canadian sellers on the Web site.

This means, if you were lucky to sell your wealthy grandma's Hermes Birkin or those impulse buys at Holt Renfrew's Last Call, the taxman may be after you.

The CRA said it wants to know whether Canadian top sellers - both individuals and companies - reported online sales income in 2004 and 2005 for tax purposes.

Lawyers for eBay Canada said the company didn't have access to the records they said were stored by the parent firm in computers outside Canada, the Toronto Globe and Mail reported.

Canadians spend about $5 billion online each year and eBay is by far the largest electronic marketplace, accounting for about one-fourth of sales, the Globe and Mail said.
