Spring is in the air, but should pregnant moms be? With travel season in full bloom, many moms-to-be may wonder whether boarding a plane is wise.
"When there are no medical or obstetrical complications, it generally is agreed that women can travel safely by air up until 36 weeks of gestation," said UAB women’s health nurse practitioner Penelope Bosarge, M.S.R.N.
She adds that pregnant women with medical conditions that may result in hypoxia should arrange for supplemental oxygen.
"However, women who have significant obstetrical factors such as placental abnormalities or who are at risk for pre-term labor should not travel by air."
"And it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor first."
