Victoria Beckham prefered the glitz of Hollywood over European charms, as she decided to stay in California while husband David left for Italy for four months.

The US football season ends in a few days and, with David aims for place in England's 2010 World Cup team, he needs to keep playing competitive football.

David's move brings memories flooding back of when he first moved to Real Madrid five years ago.

A source told the Daily Mirror: "David loves spending time in America with Victoria and his kids but he knows how vital it is to play top-flight football in order to maintain his England place.

 

"Going to Milan could be his last chance to perform at the top level and to keep in shape for England matches. He will try to get back to Los Angeles as much as possible but it's not an easy commute.

"It's going to be difficult being apart from his family. His kids are in school there and Victoria is settled working in fashion, so it makes sense for them to stay there."
