Michelle Obama's Inaugural Gown Was a Shocker for the DesignerFashion designer Jason Wu had no idea that Michelle Obama would wear his dress.
Fashion designer Jason Wu had no idea that Michelle Obama would wear his one-shouldered, full-length white gown to the inaugural ball Tuesday night, reports Usmagazine.com.
"I found out when the whole world found out," he told Us in a telephone interview Wednesday.
"I said, 'It looks white. It looks like mine...' I had a box of pizza and I nearly fell over. I was sitting there with my friends, and they were screaming."
New York City-based Wu said he was first approached last November. He was told Michelle "wanted something that sparkled. That was it," he said. "I just went for it."
"I just hoped for the best," Wu told Us. "She's so statuesque. I knew white would look great on her. White is a powerful color. I wanted to show off her arms, but not too much."
He said he is still taking all the excitement in.
"I am giving myself today to enjoy it," Wu told Us. "Then I have to get back to work. I have a fall collection to do in two weeks. I have to stay grounded."
