Jewelry Trends for Valentines Day

Bold gemstones are still a classic and trendy choice this season.

Jewelry design studio No Roses scoped out runway shows and offers some smart tips for choosing the perfect accessories for Valentines Day and spring 2006.

FIRE AND ICE
Taking a cue from the sparkle of this past holiday season, jewelry that shines like frost or is warm like a toasty fire is all the rage. Luminous silver or copper colored freshwater pearls and luxurious gemstones in warm firelight colors complement this season's wardrobe choices.

FLOWERS, LEAVES AND SHAPES
For a stylish casual look, Hollywood celebrities are selecting bold colored iconic pendants like flowers or geometric shapes. Handcrafted pieces reflecting nature (flowers, leaves and branches) are the choice for both weekday red carpet and regular-gal office outfits.

BOLD AND BIG GEMS!
Bold gemstones are still a classic and trendy choice this season. The current trend is to mix colored gems in a single piece, so look for rustic, artisan crafted pendants and rings with multiple stones. The hottest colors this season are bright ocean blue (like apatite or amazonite) mixed with deep greens (such as peridot or olive jade) and oranges (carnelian and peach aventurine) paired with soft and deep pinks (rose quartz and rodochrosite.)

SYMMETRY
This season, there is a distinct return to all things classic. The most noticable change is in necklaces...where a symmetrical balance is the "now look". To pull this off as a fashion 'do', keep in mind that symmetrical fashion can take the form of a one bold, colorful pendant, or balancing two big cocktail rings on either hand.

UNUSUAL CHAINS
Metal chains are hot, in silver and copper this season... but unusual is the key word. The key to wearing chains in a fresh, new way is to look for an unusual, bold, or intricate design worn with a enterpiece in bright colors. Hand hammered loops, brushed metal, or pitted finishes are especially hot.

GLOBAL OR A LA VINTAGE
It's still the hottest look on runways and in style agazines - jewelry that is african or south american inspired, exotic-looking, and retro-50's is the way to go this Spring. Make sure you select bold, multi colored pieces, like pendants or pins that have recognizable shapes (flowers, birds, vines) or unusual bead and gem combinations in geometric designs.

ROMANTIC AND GIRLY
Spring is definitely meant for romance. Jewelry designers are moving away from the "boho" trend of last year, and are looking to romance-inspired styles. Designs with pearls, pinks, soft oranges, floral motifs, and more ornamentation in a combined piece are the trend. Look for pretty single pieces that stand out with the softer fabrics shown on runways.
