But to hear Carolina Herrera, who has been dressing the stylish set for more than 20 years, tell it, her life is more akin to an Avon lady's than that of a glamour guru.
"It's all about selling, selling, selling," said the 60-something designer during a recent telephone interview from her New York office.
Speaking of her new collection, Carolina Herrera added that "there will be lots of chiffon and tweed in lovely shades such as mimosa, raspberry and violet." But all eyes, she said, should be on the neat waist and full-volume skirt.
"It's all of those dramatic shapes, soft and modern for now," Herrera said.
Ever the saleswoman, Carolina Herrera added: "It looks very easy to wear."
Though she enjoys talking to women who actually wear her clothes - even the ones who don't walk the red carpet or attend inaugurations - the Venezuelan-born designer said she could do without other aspects of the job, namely the traveling and media interviews.
"I would rather be creating," Carolina Herrera said.
When asked which celebrities look best in her clothes, Carolina Herrera, who was interviewed two weeks ago, named Zellweger. She explained that some actresses don't know how to wear her dresses, but Renee "wears the dresses the way I meant them to be worn."
