On November 3rd, renowned Toronto-based artist John Monteith will be featured in an interactive art exhibit called Quiet Displacement at this year’s TAAFI, Canada’s only alternative art fair.
Quiet Displacement, is an innovative live installation in which three isolated figures inhabit the upper reaches of an unusual apartment. Internationally recognized dance choreographer Christopher House of the Toronto Dance Theatre, and Gladstone’s resident installation artist Bruno Billio, join Monteith in this not to be missed piece.
Quiet Displacement is an evocation of the magical power of domestic space. It responds to our experience as human beings bombarded by information in a crowded urban environment. It examines the phenomenon of how, despite this constant bombardment, we withdraw ourselves to manufacture our individual personas.
A graduate of the elite OCAD program, Monteith’s work can be found in private and corporate collections in Europe, the United States and Canada. During the last four years, his work has been exhibited in Toronto, culminating in a number of published works.
TAAFI combines individual artists, curators, commercial galleries and not-for-profit art institutions, complimented by daily panel discussions by internationally recognized curators and art critics.
Check out John Monteith at TAAFI. Live performances are scheduled at the Gladstone for Thursday November 3rd at 8:30, Friday - Sunday at 4, 6, and 7:30 and Monday at 5:30.
