Canadian version of the international Live8 music event to be held near Toronto on July 2, organizers announced. Gordon Lightfoot, Our Lady Peace, Bryan Adams and the Barenaked Ladies will be among those performing at the Canadian leg of Live8.
Canadian Live8 will take place outside of Barrie, in a field called Park Place, about 62 miles north of Toronto.
Canadian Live8 promoter Michael Cohl confirmed that the concert will include acts by Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea, Jan Arden, Bruce Coburn, Deep Purple, Motley Crue, Simple Plan, African Guitar Summit, Tom Cochrane, Sam Roberts, the Tragically Hip, Bachman-Cummings band, Les Trois Accords and a special performance live by satellite by Celine Dion.
More acts are expected to be added.
The free Live8 event will be hosted by Dan Akroyd and Tom Green.
"Why Canada is important is because you invented the doubling of aid scenario 35 years ago... You called for the developed world to come up with 0.7% GDP to help the poor of the world," Live8 organizer Bob Geldof told media.
There will be 1,000 artists participating in the eight same-day Live 8 concerts. The event will be broadcast live worldwide by 178 television stations and 1,200 radio stations.
