Harry Potter Becomes Forest-Friendly

Forests are magical places, as Harry Potter followers are well aware. That's why thousands of fans are calling on Harry Potter publishers to print those enchanting tales of wizardry on paper that doesn't destroy endangered Muggle forests.

Forests are magical places, as Harry Potter followers are well aware. That's why thousands of fans are calling on Harry Potter publishers to print those enchanting tales of wizardry on paper that doesn't destroy endangered Muggle forests.

In response, in 2003, Raincoast Books, the Canadian co-publisher of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, printed its Canadian edition on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper, and this year, Bloomsbury, the Harry Potter publisher in the U.K., has just agreed to print Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince using 30 percent ancient forest-friendly paper.

Please help us persuade J.K. Rowling's U.S. publisher, Scholastic, to top that.

Author J.K. Rowling praised the book's role in helping save Muggle forests:

"The forest at Hogwarts is home to magical creatures like unicorns and centaurs. Because the Canadian editions are printed on ancient forest-friendly paper, the Harry Potter books are helping to save magnificent forests in the Muggle world, forests that are home of magical animals such as orangutans, wolves and bears. It's a good idea to respect ancient trees, especially if they have a temper like the Whomping Willow."
