The newest addition to Neutrogena’s family of skincare products for problem skin, the Visibly Clear line may become a holy grail for those blessed with pimple-prone skin. We gave it a test run for seven days, and here is our snobbish opinion.
Every person who encountered acne and successfully cured it by some sort of a treatment is extremely savvy when it comes to skincare product.
Will it break me out? Will it dry me out? Will it keep my skin nice and smooth, but will it protect me from sun, oxidants, and generally unhealthy city environment? These are the questions that pop in my head each time I see something new on store shelves.
Lots of guesswork, much less products that multitask.
The newest addition to Neutrogena’s family of skincare products for problem skin, the Visibly Clear line may become a holy grail for those blessed with pimple-prone skin. We gave it a test run for whole seven days.
Cleansing
We started our daily skincare regimen with Gentle Exfoliating Wash that comes in hygienic tube. Fresh-smelling gel with fine-milled synthetic grains, Witch Hazel extract and lactic acid was a true pleasure to use. We especially loved the fact it saved us three minutes we needed every morning for exfoliation with a scrub. In the evening we used Visibly Clear Two-in-One Wash/Mask that deeply cleanses and conditions. This lovely-scented mask in a convenient tube contains kaolin and bentonite along with deep-penetrating salicylic acid.
Additional benefits: cleansers multitask saving time and space on the counter; can be used as a mask and a scrub; stylish orange-and-gray containers look lovely on the countertop.
Downer: almost none, although we believe soothing action of menthol is questionable.
Toning
To soothe the skin and eliminate all traces of the cleanser we finished the cleansing routine with Visibly Clear Triple Action Lotion. A lightly scented colorless alcohol-based lotion contains castor oil and salicylic acid, as well as aloe, chamomile, and witch hazel to add in soothing and blemish-fighting action.
Additional benefits: mild cooling action is quite welcome in the summer time.
Downer: alcohol-based toners, even as mild as this one, can be tough to handle for blemished skin.
Moisturising
The final note in Visibly Clear Oil-Free Moisturizer “soothes, softens and smoothes”, according to the packaging. It contains Aloe and Chamomile extracts as well as blemish-fighting salicylic acid that helps unblock pores and calm down the inflammation.
Sensory appeal: when applied to cleansed and toned skin, this moisturizer glides smoothly and penetrates quickly. We loved the sleek tube with pointed nose. Immediately upon the application we noticed pleasant cooling sensation which comes from a tiny bit of menthol which is actually considered an irritant to the problem skin, but we don’t think the concentration is high enough to cause any significant damage.
Additional benefits: works pretty well under the makeup and doesn’t cause it creasing and smudging. We believe it helped the makeup stay satiny matte for longer than it normally would. Doesn’t block pores and didn’t cause us any allergic reaction. However, we will appreciate if this light creamy lotion came with at least SPF15 to provide the essential sun protection.
Downer: because of the presence of dimethicone in the formula, this cream may not be a keeper for many health-concerned people.
