Essential Diet Tips for Acne

Like the idea of cleansing your skin from the inside out? Try eating foods that help combat acne.

What would you do for skin that's soft, fresh and acne-free? All the expensive skin care products in the world won't achieve good skin without help from a diet for healthy skin. Here's how the Better Skin Diet will help you look and feel great:

1) Fish contains oils that will help nourish your skin. This diet includes fish options at lunch and dinner to add lustre and softness to your complexion. Add canned tuna to your lunch salad or try a salmon whole-wheat bagel. If you can't eat fish as often as you like, try taking fish oil supplements which have no fishy odour.

2) Ground flaxseeds (linseeds) are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which promote good skin health. Add flaxseed to your breakfast cereal for a healthy acne-prone skin within a couple of weeks. For the breakfast, try eating your cereal or low-fat muesli topped with 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds and blueberries.

3) Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin. This diet includes plenty of dark orange (carrots, sweet potatoes) and dark green (broccoli, spinach, kale) vegetables - all of which are high in vitamin A. Add a cup of baby carrots and chopped broccoli to your salad and see glowing skin in the matter of weeks. Steamed broccoli, mashed sweet potatoes and steamed spinach tossed with lemon juice make delicious dinner side dishes.

4) Vitamin E helps promote good-looking skin, which is why this diet includes nuts such as hazelnuts and almonds - which are high in vitamin E - as snacks, Vaseline recommends.
