Acne Skin Care: Wash Your Skin Gently

Cleaning is an essential part of caring for acne-prone skin. The key is to treat your skin gently.

Here are few tips that will help you cleanse your acne-prone skin with minimal damage and maximal benefits.

1) Use warm water to clean acne-prone skin. Hot water including hot showers remove protective lipide film from your skin. Limit your shower time to about 15 minutes or less, and use warm, rather than hot, water.

2) Avoid strong soap cleansers for your acne. This includes medicated soaps intended for acne skin. Strong soaps which are capable of stripping oil from your skin can leave your skin dry. Instead, choose mild soaps with oils and fats added to them during the soap manufacturing process, say Mayo Clinic Health Center experts.

3) Avoid irritating additives when you choose your acne skincare such as toners and sublocks. If your skin is acne-prone, it is also sensitive, so your best bet is to avoid products containing perfumes or dyes. These can irritate your skin and may trigger an allergic response.

4) Remove eye makeup carefully. Use a soft sponge, cotton cloth or cotton balls when removing eye makeup to avoid damaging the delicate tissue around your eyes. If you wear heavy, waterproof makeup, you may need to use an oil-based product such as petroleum jelly.

5) Pat acne-prone skin dry, don't wipe it. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on the skin. Immediately moisturize your skin with an oil-fre moisturizer containing benzoyl peroxide or tea tree oil.
