Mariah Carey Eats Beets to Beat Wrinkles

Mariah Carey has reportedly started eating a purple food diet in an effort to stave off wrinkles.

Mariah Carey has reportedly started eating a purple food diet in an effort to stave off wrinkles.

Mariah Carey eats three meals of purple vegetarian food a day, indulging on red grapes and beetroot. Mariah started the diet after her nutritionist advised eating purple veggies that were high in anti-oxidants.

"It's a huge injection of healthy food in one go. Purple products are nature's best weapons in the battle against ageing," comments a source, as quoted by The Sun (UK).

"There's a saying that a plum a day keeps a facelift away. Purple food can prevent breakdown of collagen and slow the wasting of muscles. So Mariah is bulk-eating them," the diet-conscious source has added.

Doctors recommend to prevent early wrinkles by also eating foods rich in vitamin C, a nutrient known for its importance in the manufacture of collagen.

"Vitamin C is essential for connective tissue in the body, particularly for the layer where the collagen that maintains the integrity of your skin is made," explains Lorraine Meisner, Ph.D., professor of preventive medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison.

"That's why people who eat adequate diets look younger than people who don't."

For a burst of vitamin C in your diet, you can go the traditional orange juice and citrus route, or you can create a vegetable medley of broccoli, brussels sprouts and red bell peppers. Dr. Meisner generally recommends a daily vitamin C dosage of 300 to 500 milligrams.
