For the most part, you can't get too sexy-it is a business atmosphere, not a disco and the utmost level of professional appropriateness rules. Particularly since you never want to be the tart they are whispering about around the cappuccino counter the day after. It is rather absurd to think that just because it's a festive gathering you should arrive at the office wearing a cocktail dress. On the other hand, if your office party is held later in the evening you can go home and push the luxe envelope. Still, it's the straight from the cubicle party that complicates the underdressed/overdressed party outfit dilemma.
Ditch the corporate blank face and go girly girl with a flourish of liquid eyeliner and shimmery lips, nails and skin. Stand tall in simple shapes and you'll radiate confidence. Avoid fussy details. Bring a flat iron or hair dryer to work to pump up your “coiff.”
Don't oversell your sex appeal. “You will still have to get up in the morning and go to work, so you don’t want anyone to discuss your manners or how you behaved at the party. You do want to be dressed appropriately, because you are going to work with these people for the rest of the year”, says Cathy DeSerranno, Wardrobe Consultant at First Canadian Place, “Keep that in mind when you choose your party outfit, and it will help you to make the right decision”.
Show a little more skin… by way of a simple sleeveless black dress paired with great stilettos and sexy nude hose. A well-cut tank or camisole draws attention to the neckline, shoulders and arms. A hint of skin is more seductive than full disclosure.
Bare arms- like a sleeveless cashmere shell - and high heels are an instant diva duo. Play to your strengths (slim wrists, strong shoulders, a long neck) with bold jewellery. Build an outfit around one special jeweled item, something that's a little too-too for day but can go the extra party-hardy mile. “The easiest way to get a glamour fix is to add a little bit of shimmer to your outfit”, says Tracey Ho Lung, Fashion and Beauty Editor at Chatelaine Magazine, “Whether it’s a scarf, earrings, a ring or even your shoes, all you have to do is to throw one shimmery piece in your outfit. For example, a shimmery camisole, long chandelier earrings can do a great job”.
Take careful stock of your figure's finer points. Gym bodies are not better than womanly curves, but a sleek tone and clear complexion are winners at any age.
