  Wayne Clark

Wayne Clark At the age of 10, Wayne Clark knew that he wanted to spend his life designing beautiful clothing for beautiful women. Heady dreams for a boy from Calgary, however after three years at the Alberta College of Art, Clark decided to realize his ambition and applied for admission to the design program at Oakville's Sheridan College.

In 1973, after leaving Sheridan, Wayne Clark was awarded a Canadian Fashion Industry Scholarship granted by the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce and spent the next 18 months apprenticing at Hardy Amies in London, England.

From Hardy Amies, Wayne Clark was hired by designer Alice Pollock of Quorum, and had the opportunity to work as an assistant costume designer on the film "The Romantic Englishwoman" with Glenda Jackson.

In 1977, Wayne Clark returned to Toronto and began designing clothes for Canadian women.

Over the next 10 years, Wayne Clark honed the style for which he has become known, achieving prominence in the North American evening wear market. One of the first Canadian designers to enjoy widespread acceptance in the United States and Britain, Wayne Clark's designs appear regularly in magazines, films and on television.

Wayne Clark’s work is divided into two distinct categories; the dramatic confections created for the press and appreciative fashion show audiences and the classic dresses, gowns and sportswear created for the retail customer.

Wayne Clark knows that his customer is buying more than a dress. She is buying a special occasion, an evening when she will be admired, envied, courted - definitely not the wallflower.

Wayne Clark believes strongly that a woman needs to feel comfortable in her clothes, and it is from this belief that all of his designs come. Regardless of whether it's one of his little black nothings or his legendary gowns, a customer must feel as relaxed as if she were wearing her favorite pair of jeans and a T-shirt. It is from this virtually seamless fusion of fantasy and function that his design philosophy springs.

In 1990, after having worked with various companies in the industry, Wayne Clark decided that he wanted to take control of the entire process from concept to shipping. He established his own business in Toronto, intent on producing well-designed, beautifully-made clothing.

Wayne Clark's designs are available at select stores in Canada and the U.S
